Update 1/28: All of the kitties are sick with sniffles and have seen the vet.

It is a viral infection, but since the twins have heart problems, they are on antibiotics.

Mom Deb stays up all night with them and is cooking special things to get them to eat.

Please send purrs and purrayers to them all!

Sam is having quite a time of it since losing his pal, Seaborne. He went to the vet again yesterday and had to be hydrated and have his antibiotics changed......he has a cold and the sneezies now. Please pray for him.....and pray for Auntie Deb that the girls don't get the sneezies.

Sam is Recovering

Mine Mommy ML talked to Auntie Deb on tha phone this morning.

Of course, them's still in shock and saddness from tha sudden loss of Seaborne.

I know we's missing Seaborne, him was like a brofur to us.

What we didn't know was that Sam has been in the vet hospitle for over a week, in intensive care

wif kidney blockage.

Tha vet said that grieving over him's lost brofur could have stressed him out enuff to get sick.

Auntie Deb said she was too upset to even write about it on tha bloggie.

We's so glad Sam is okay and I betcha Sam and Auntie Deb would love to see some belated purrs, grrrs and purrayers.

I brought our beloved Seaborne's ashes home. We were so blessed to have him share his life with us. We miss him so very much. Seaborne was such a gentle white lion. He loved to have his ears scratched and his tummy rubbed. The memory of his soft white fur against my hand lingers still.

He left his paw prints on our hearts.

Thank you all so very much for the loving comments that you have left about our beautiful Seaborne.

I will try to get back to blogging eventually. I truly appreciate all of you, my wonderful friends.

Deb: Thank you all very much for your compassionate comments. I appreciate your friendship so very much. Seaborne was fine on Wednesday morning. He started panting heavily around 5:50 pm. We wrapped him in a blanket and rushed him to the E.R. He had a seizure when we got there. I gave him CPR, but he passed. The vet said that he had apparently had a clot that went to his lungs.

We are heartbroken. Seaborne was a darling boy that we rescued while on vacation in Seaside, Florida. He was around six weeks old and the cutest little puff of white fur with his beautiful odd eyes -- one green and one blue. Seaborne was ten years old.

We are taking a break from blogging for a while. I will be reading your comments.

We have had half of our DEMAND met...TATUM IS HOME! As you can see, Sam is very happy!

Hi everyone! We are finally back blogging. I thought that I would explain what has been going on with Mommy.

Mommy went to see her pain doctor on Wednesday to have the Spinal Cord Stimulator procedure. This procedure was the last real hope that she had for some permanent pain relief. The procedure should have taken just about 45 minutes...but....of course...for her..everything went wrong.

Her pain doctor and two assistants did the procedure, which she says hurt like "insert bad word here cause I am not allowed to say one"! The procedure is quite painful and you have to be awake so that they know the needles and wires are in the proper place. They got the wires inserted into her spine and it seemed like everything was going well, but she wasn't feeling the tingling sensation that you are supposed to feel.

So, they pulled the wires and needles out and redid the whole procedure. While she was lying down, it seemed to be working, but when she sat up, no tingling. So, again they took everything out and ... did the whole procedure again. And again!

Mommy was at the doctor's office for six hours. After the third time, again with nothing happening, she was finished. A back full of holes and nothing to show for it.

Mommy is apparently among the 1% that this procedure doesn't work on. Typical for Mommy.

This was the most painful procedure that she has had yet. Once was bad enough, but THREE times? The doctor wanted it to work, Mommy wanted it to work, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Mommy says that she now knows what a shish kabob feels like. If she had known any state secrets, she would have given them up! Mommy would not make a very good spy! Torture is a word that comes to mind!

We are going to try and be better at visiting our furiends! We hope that all of you have a safe and wonderful day!

We are very excited around the Taylor house! The Zoolatry Human, Ann, will be coming to stay with uSSSSS for a few days. Her daughter, Rebecca, and her family are moving to Maryland. They will be living about six minutes from our house! We have never met any of them in person and we are so excited! Mommy can't wait to play with Ann's darlin' grandson JuneyBug!

Just look at what Mommy took off my hide:

Well, this is one mad cat!

She gave me a Mohawk in reverse!

But wait, it gets worse!

She also shaved my hiney!

That's right, my keister, my tooshie, my fanny!

What made her do this terrible assault?

Can you believe it, she said it was MY fault!

So matted and tangled were the furs on my back that

no comb was working on this particular cat.

Which is very unusual, because I am usually so careful

to do all my grooming like a Mancat should!

So out came the shaver

and I couldn't have been braver!

I sat very stoic

as she gave me a reverse Mohawk!

Now most kitties would quiver

and all would certainly shiver...

at the sight of Mommy holding a shaver!

I repeat for the record: I couldn't have been braver.

Mommy says that she thinks that I, gallantly,

used all of my cleaning spit on Seaborne's furs...that could be.

I do admit to giving him some help

cause it is hard to actually clean your back yourself!

Think about it....how can you possibly reach

your back to clean? Pray tell, I beseech!

You move this way and that way, both frontward and backward...

That is a yoga position I haven't yet mastered!

So, here is the point of this tale that I have told:

My furs better grown back soon or I will be cold! AND...

Mommy had better watch her pillow

for I have a "gift" that I would like to bestow!

Mommy: Sam was so brave.....screaming like a baby the whole time....oh yes.....so brave. What the heck is on my pillow? SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

I have been keeping a diary of when she has her "coughing spells" and they see to come every 10 days or so. She has an appointment this morning to see the vet. Update: 10:15 a.m. (est)
We just got back from the vet. She took x-rays and examined Spats thoroughly. There is still a very small amount of fluid showing up around Spats' lungs. Dr. Bonner put Spats on an antibiotic with a small amount of steroid in it. We are going to try this for 30 days. Dr. Bonner is going to consult with Spats' cardiologist to see if Spats' can have an inhaler when she has her "coughing spells". I am praying that Spats has allergies and/or asthma. These conditions are easily treated. Thank you very much for all of your purrs and prayers.

Sparkle, what a great idea to video Spats when she has her coughing spells. I never thought of that!

Hi everyone! Well, we weathered Hurricane Irene just fine here at the Taylor House. We had a lot of rain and winds, but otherwise everything was just fine. We hope that all of our other furiends out there had the same luck with the hurricane. Since we used to live in Houston, TX, we know a lot about hurricanes. We never thought that we would have to worry about earthquakes and hurricanes when we moved up here!!!

Hi everyone! I want to thank all of you for your many prayers, purrs, woofs, headbonks, crossed paws, fingers and hooves.

Spats is doing well today. I had to take her in to the emergency vet on Saturday after she had a severe coughing "attack".

The vet checked Spats out and said that she recommended keeping a close eye on Spats and, if she had another coughing attach, bring Spats back in immediately.

Also, I got word from Spats' Internal Medicine Specialist about all the tests that were run on Spats. All of the results came back fine. No infection or anything else showed up. This is great! Only, they were unable to get a sample of the fluid around her heart because there wasn't enough fluid for them to aspirate safely, so we don't know what the fluid is or what is causing it. We are going to watch her very carefully and take her back to the Internal Medicine Vet in about a month.

Sassy did okay, but Spats was not so lucky....she has fluid around her heart so has to go to a specialist tomorrow.....please, please, please pray for her....that it is only an infection and nothing more serious!!!!!!!!!

Auntie Deb went to the doctor this morning. Fortunately the burn is looking better, although there is still some infection, but she didn't have to be hospitalized!!!!!!!

Hi everyone! Mommy wanted me to explain why we haven't been able to visit in a while. She managed to spill boiling water on her left arm and she has second degree burns from her elbow to her wrist.

All of uSSSSS have been "on call" around the clock, along with TBG (The Big Guy) and Sloane.

Mommy will be fine. She just can't help uSSSSS visit our friends since she isn't very good at typing with one hand.

Well, I need to get some rest before beginning my shift. Mommy feels so much better with uSSSSS sleeping and cuddling her! Cat Therapy is the best!!!

Hi Sam! What are you watching?

Sloane and Mommy are very busy in the kitchen. They are making dinner for TBG (The Big Guy). It doesn't appear to have any kind of fish or meat in it at all. How can they eat that? Mommy says that it is a vegetarian meal. Hmmm....Sloane is a vegetarian and Mommy and TBG love to eat like that too. Weird isn't it? No Stinky Goodness??? Horrible, don't you think?

I have lost FIVE pounds! Yep, since February. I am a mere 22 pounds. I am IN SHAPE! I must admit that while I DON'T like DIETS, I do feel better and I have more energy.

Now, all this work wasn't just for health reasons. I do have a lovely ladycat on my mind.

Oh dear, I certainly hope that she didn't see me strutting about! You really MUST be careful about what you put on the Internet these days!

Okay, I'll let the VET examine me, but I am not happy about it!

Here is another picture of my "innards".....it is kinda cool! I was very good while they took my picture.

HOME AT LAST!

I had to go to the vet because a cough for a week or so. The vet put me on some antibiotics to clear up her cough because she said that the picture of my innards shows that my lungs are a little unhappy. Sassy & I are having to have a cardiologist checkup in a couple of weeks. We are on heart medication, but doing fine. Mommy says: "Thank God!" This will be our regular checkups with their cardiologist that we have to do every six months.

We had to get on Mommy's computer and wish Missy a very happy gotcha day. Mommy is so lucky that she is getting to spend time with the Sherwood family. She will be home on Saturday, June 4th. We have talked to her and we know that she is having a great time visiting with them. We do miss her!

Mommy is really enjoying her visit with the Sherwood family! All of uSSSSS miss her, but The Big Guy is taking very good care of uSSSSS. Tatum has been home too, so we have been snuggling her a lot. She is going back to Manhattan today. We have been busy making sure that her clothes are adequately covered in fur!

She and Auntie ML saw the back doctor who did Mommy's surgeries. Unfortunately, he was indecisive about what treatment either of them needed. So, a second opinion is definitely in order!

They are both going to see Dr. Ezell today - the Taylor Family Doctor for the past 30 years. In fact, Sloane's middle name is "Ezell" in honor of this fantastic doctor. Dr. Ezell is going to examine both Mommy and Auntie ML. They are quite confident that Dr. Ezell will be able to make them both feel much better!

Spats: Hi everyone! I decided to use Mommy's computer and do a post all by myself! Mommy is in Texas staying with Auntie ML. She has an appointment tomorrow with her back doctor. Auntie ML is going to have a check-up too! Hopefully they will both have a good report.

FIV POSITIVE

LOOK OUT!! Yep, I said it and some people would have thought that I had said that I had an unexploded bomb! Or that I had said an X-rated word! Make that FIV-rated.

I was one of the people. I realized just how uneducated I was about FIV. I decided to change that and thought that I would share some of what I learned with all of you!

FIV FACTS:

1. The Feline Immuno-deficiency Virus (FIV) is a slow virus that affects a cat's immune system over a period of years.

2. FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines.

3. FIV cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all.

4. FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread casually - like in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens.

5. The virus can be spread through blood transfusions, badly infected gums, or serious, penetrating bite wounds. (Bite wounds of this kind are extremely rare, except in free-roaming, unneutered tomcats.)

6. A neutered cat, in a home, is extremely unlikely to infect other cats.

7. Despite what many people think, cats with this condition can live perfectly long, happy, healthy lives.

FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. It's a lentivirus, meaning that it progresses very slowly, gradually affecting a cat's immune system. It is passed through blood transfusions and through serious, penetrating bite wounds - mainly by stray, intact tom cats.

The most well-known lentivirus in humans is HIV. But the two viruses are not at all the same, and you can't get FIV from a cat.

As long as cats with FIV are not exposed to diseases that their immune system can't handle, they can live perfectly normal lives. And they can only pass the virus on to other cats through a serious, penetrating bite wound.

So unless your cats at home routinely tear each other to pieces, it's not a problem. (And if your cats are tearing each other up, then you have much bigger problems!)

The virus affects the immune system, so keep FIV cats indoors, make sure they get regular vaccinations, and give them a high-quality diet. Keep an eye on them, and take them to the veterinarian at the first sign of illness. Of course, this would be the same advice for any cat.

There is absolutely no reason for these wonderful kitties not to be in good homes.

I hope that all of you don't mind my sharing what I have learned about FIV Positive cats. Many of you probably already knew this information.

Now....on to another objective of mine:

Chrystal, who we all know and love, has a beautiful FIV Positive cat. Daphne. Here are some facts about darling Daphne:

She is a lovebug!
She loves rubbing your legs and peeps out her little mews.
She loves to crawl on your lap and make bikkies.
She loves to give nose bump kisses.
She is blind in one eye.
She is FIV positive.

I would adopt her if I had room at the Taylor house.

Surely there someone who would take this little jewel? Please consider adopting Daphne. She deserves a loving home and she should not be denied this because of FIV.

Ask your friends, family, neighbors and FaceBook, Tweet, Blog, PHONE, TEXT .....please help find a home for Daphne and help to:

SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT HOW FIV IS ACTUALLY SPREAD!
